The HKTDC, continuing with its efforts to highlight design-savvy nations, partnered with the Netherlands to showcase Dutch design in architecture, interiors, industrial design and fashion design. Italy, Korea, Israel and Barcelona also set up pavilions to introduce their designs to the world.

4.     To develop a critical mass, a number of events were synchronised around the HKTDC IDT Expo. Among others, special note were the HKTDC World SME Expo - the Council's annual flagship event for small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) around the world, the Business of Design Week (BODW) - a week-long programme organised by the Hong Kong Design Centre to celebrate design excellence and innovation, and the International Conference on Nanotechnology and Advanced Materials.

5.     The Expo featured a wide range of technology solutions by exhibitors from Shenzhen, Shanghai, Australia, Malaysia, Singapore and Thailand. Special emphasis was put on environmental concerns by employing practical technology in the manufacturing sector. In addition, more than 25 inventors from Hong Kong and overseas presented new inventions, designs and ideas at the Expo, providing enterprises with commercial opportunities.

6.     A series of thematic seminars and forums was organised over the four days. Experts and exhibitors spoke on the latest industry trends and how to add value to business by applying innovative design and practical technology. Business matching and networking activities were also arranged to encourage business cooperation among SMEs and service providers from Hong Kong and around the world.

7.     To develop a critical mass, the 2008 IDT Expo was held concurrently with three major events: HKTDC World SME Expo ¡V the Council¡¦s annual flagship event for SMEs; Business of Design Week (BODW), a week-long programme organised by the Hong Kong Design Centre to celebrate design excellence and innovation; and the Asian-Oceania Computing Industry Organisation (ASOCIO) ICT Summit, represented by 27 member countries in Asia.

Overall Results

8.     The four-day event recorded about 30,000 visits, including 2,433 visitors from the Chinese mainland and 1,100 overseas visitors from 56 countries and regions. The results reflected a great demand for innovative technology and design solutions among business people, while IDT Expo helped promote Hong Kong as a trading hub for business-focused innovative technology and design services.

9.     A survey conducted at the Expo showed that the event was well-received by exhibitors and visitors alike. Exhibitors regarded the Expo as useful for promoting their company image, introducing new technology and design and obtaining information about the latest market trends. Expo visitors were also pleased that they were able to acquire the latest applied technology and design solutions.
